Just 8 kms inland from the sea – at the foot of the mountains, and you can see the sea. You are unlikely to see another tourist (it does happen, but rarely!) No Coffee shops…
This spot is special – there is a temple to take care of us, a teak house for living in and a separate kitchen. There is a small room on the first layer and another teak house on third layer – privacy ok

SUNSET SALA is the name of this very special place in a traditional Balinese village of Sudaji – North Bali. Be surprised to see another westerner!
The teak house (Gladak) is 40 years old. 5metres x 4 metres plus a balcony of 2 metres wide. Sanded and transported from Java to the rice-fields of Bali. We had to build a path to get to our little bit of heaven. The views are stunning- mountains to the south and sea to the north and rice terraces and forest in front.

Did we mention that we have uninterrupted views and the surrounds are pristine?
Terrace on three sides of the teak house allows you to either hang out on the day beds or sit in a bulky teak chairs and chat. There is water dispenser in the house. On the next layer up there is a fully equipped kitchen. You can eat at local Warungs – only a few are open for lunch but many more for dinner OR Ibu Ayu will cook Indonesian dinner at 60,000rp per person per meal. Half price for kids under 14. Please organise ahead as she goes to market in the morning.
Breakfast included in tariff- usually fresh fruit and omlette or as arranged – not traditional western breakfast.
You can’t drive a car to the gladak – closest stop is the local temple about 150m away. after that its on foot or for the brave -a motorbike!

This is a QUIET place – great for relaxing, enjoying the village and people, sight-seeing to the beach (9 km away) and the magnificent Sekempul waterfalls 15 mins away by car or motorbike. Air Saneh is 20 minutes drive east. Lovina 40 minutes drive to the west by car.
Singaraja is 15 mins to the west by car.
Menenjangan Island for snorkeling or diving (best in Bali) is 2 hours away.
Interaction with guests
I am usually not there but if i am i look forward to meeting you. Ibu Ayu looks after the house and you – and so does Pak and Ibu Mangku (priest and wife).
Other things to note
THERE IS NO WIFI and there is a computer place for printing or internet in the village.
There is a normal fridge in the kitchen so welcome to go to local market “pasar” (open 4am to 730am) and buy fresh! Enjoy the locals – of course they charge you a little more… it is still very cheap!
We have moved to normal electricity. There is no air-conditioning or fans – not needed – natural living. In fact you will often need a blanket (supplied).There are small blankets on the chairs.
The water for showers and toilets is pumped by the local priest from a water channel. There is now hot water in the shower.
BREAKFAST is included and Dinner is extra. You can go to local warungs in the village, or Lovina, or Air Saneh or Singaraja OR you can eat at home – menu to be discussed with Ibu Ayu – each meal is 60,000rp per person per meal. Children under 14 are half price. Yes I know it is more expensive than a warung but please remember this is not a restaurant and everything is bought fresh, carried to kitchen, and cooked especially for you 🙂
